We are seven handsome and charming* guys who meet at a different restaurant every month or so, having read a book in common, and discuss whatever we want--generally the assigned book, but usually many other timely topics as well. We rotate the responsibility to suggest titles, but the group has the final say. Our book club rules: 1) Anything goes, fiction or nonfiction; 2) paperbacks are preferred; and 3) staying under 300 pages is desirable (N.B., we violate this one all the time). We rate all books and restaurants on a 5-point scale.

* All other adjectives were vetoed.

Family of Spies by Christine Kuehn (Holman's Table)

Our restaurant, on the property of the St Paul Airport, was delightful and the food and service were outstanding.  It was a little noisy but less so as time went on.  Our book proved popular, too.  It told the story of a woman who had heard snippets of family-talk about some shady ancestors and decided to do a little research.  The rumors were just the tip of the iceberg and proved to be an embarrassing yet fascinating tale of deep Nazi involvement as well as spying for the Japanese at Pearl Harbor. Our next book is The Rumor of War by Philip Caputo. Other books considered were John Greene's Everything Is Tuberculosis, and Evelyn McDonnell's The World According to Joan Didion.  We plan to meet on June 26 at 1:00 pm.
